CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

2008-2009   Activities will be posted after the start of the new school year.

Rainbow Elementary offers many different clubs and extra-curricular activities.

Among them are:

Math Olympiad

This is an annual worldwide math problem solving contest for 4th-6th graders.  Generally Math Olympiad meets once a week October through March to prepare for and take the 5 math tests.  Once each test is completed our scores are sent to the Math Olympiad organization where they keep and tally all the participating teams' scores.  In May we get Rainbow's results and awards!

 Student Council

The mission of student council is to coordinate school spirit days and organize service projects for the school community as well as outside the community.  Student representatives are from grades 2-6 and they inform the lower grades of the minutes from the meetings.  Past projects include: Bake Sale for donation to the local Angel Tree, monthly spirit days, dress down days, collecting money for 2 Iraqi orphans, mailing boxes to deployed soldiers and recently we just opened a  school store on Thursdays with proceeds to benefit Cancer Research.

Music club

Music club members learn about and experience more advanced musical repertoire than would normally be taught in the regular music class. Singing, playing classroom rhythm instruments, and performing for an audience are also aspects of the club. We meet after school twice a week, every other week, in room 19.

See the music teacher for more details.

Rainbow Service Learning Club is a new club this year!  This is an opportunity for young people to contribute to their community.

Students will help generate service projects and research to learn about the people/organization they are helping.

Students will share their knowledge with the rest of the Rainbow population.

Students will organize and execute the service project.

          Example:

The students may decide to do a coat drive.   They will then find a place that needs the coats, learn about the organization and “teach” the other Rainbow students about the group in need. They will then collect and box the coats.   They will do the promotion to gather the coats.

Other Examples:  Book Drive, Letters to Veteran’s Hospitals

So…. If you feel like taking some time to give to others and learn about helping out other people…. This club is for you!  No experience necessary.  Come, help and learn a little too!

The Study Club is an opportunity for students to work quietly on assignments or projects, and receive help from a teacher if necessary.

The Club meets Tuesday through Thursday after school till 1520 hours

For more information contact the office to be directed to the current after school program advisor.

After school activities and athletics that are offered by the Youth Services are not the responsibility of DODDS-E.  DoDDS-E does not have the authority nor does it receive funding to initiate such services.
